Hole 1

W: Par 4 • Yards 319 • stroke index 17
Y: Par 4 • Yards 308 • stroke index 17
R: Par 4 • Yards 291 • stroke index 14

A nice, fairly gentle start to the golf course, although the combination of the trees in the middle of the fairway and the pond on the right makes life difficult for some. An accurate drive should result in no more than a short iron into the green and a “certain” par!

Hole 2

W: Par 4 • Yards 437 • stroke index 3
Y: Par 4 • Yards 427 • stroke index 3
R: Par 5 • Yards 409 • stroke index 17

After a relatively easy start this hole is a real “awakener”. There’s a lot of emphasis on getting a good tee shot away and for those who can’t pass the brutally located tree just to the right of the fairway, then left would definitely be the safest option. Even then this is a very awkward green to find and a very awkward green once you reach it! My advice would be for anyone over about 8 handicap to play this hole for a 5. Chasing the 4 could result in a double bogey at best!

Hole 3

W: Par 3 • Yards 178 • stroke index 9
Y: Par 3 • Yards 168 • stroke index 9
R: Par 3 • Yards 142 • stroke index 12

A very testing par 3. Simply getting your ball on the green is no mean achievement and unless your ball finishes inside 20 feet or so – 2 putting could prove a serious challenge.

Hole 4

W: Par 4 • Yards 377 • stroke index 5
Y: Par 4 • Yards 370 • stroke index 5
R: Par 4 • Yards 350 • stroke index 1

This is our stroke index 5 – which at 377 yards probably tells you that this hole is by no means a pushover. The water guarding the right side of the green is there to punish an errant second shot.

Hole 5

W: Par 5 • Yards 490 • stroke index 13
Y: Par 5 • Yards 480 • stroke index 13
R: Par 5 • Yards 468 • stroke index 7

Our first par 5 which carries a great deal of risk against reward. The tee shot is very tight and even if you “survive” that, the 2nd shot presents you with many choices. If you are a “bit of a shifter” you might feel there’s an opportunity lost if you don’t make 4 – but the new saddle shaped green and severe drop off the back could easily cost you a double bogey. Tread carefully – it’s too early in the round to spoil your card.

Hole 6

W: Par 4 • Yards 348 • stroke index 15
Y: Par 4 • Yards 338 • stroke index 15
R: Par 4 • Yards 324 • stroke index 9

Favour the left side of the fairway with your tee shot and this hole shouldn’t give you too many problems, but the out of bounds up on the right hand side is closer than you think. Don’t do what most golfers do and have a great big swipe at the tee shot just because it’s up hill!

Hole 7

W: Par 5 • Yards 491 • stroke index 11
Y: Par 5 • Yards 477 • stroke index 11
R: Par 5 • Yards 446 • stroke index 10

When we were a 9 hole golf course, this was the first hole. As par 5’s go this is fairly easy and there’s no hidden problems, although it is tight on both sides so distance isn’t everything.

Hole 8

W: Par 4 • Yards 440 • stroke index 1
Y: Par 4 • Yards 390 • stroke index 1
R: Par 4 • Yards 384 • stroke index 3

We believe that this is one of the prettiest holes on the course. Even after a successful tee shot the green is still a very difficult target to find. This new green invites a full approach shot but beware!, the green sees many 3 putts.

Hole 9

W: Par 4 • Yards 351 • stroke index 7
Y: Par 4 • Yards 338 • stroke index 7
R: Par 4 • Yards 330 • stroke index 5

A fairly generous tee shot with the only “bother” being very obvious. Favour the left side of the fairway with your tee shot because the tree guarding the front right of the green can be very penal and the ditch guarding the right and rear of the green is close.

Hole 10

W: Par 4 • Yards 314 • stroke index 16
Y: Par 4 • Yards 304 • stroke index 16
R: Par 4 • Yards 288 • stroke index 11

You can get very close to this green with your tee shot – but bizarrely that isn’t always a great advantage here. If you get your second shot within 15 feet, and on the right level of the new MacKenize green, you’ve done well.

Hole 11

W: Par 4 • Yards 282 • stroke index 14
Y: Par 4 • Yards 273 • stroke index 14
R: Par 4 • Yards 226 • stroke index 13

There’s a nasty ditch across the whole fairway here – otherwise what you see is what you get. If you’re under about 30 – built like a tank and have the latest driver then you MIGHT be able to drive over it.

Hole 12

W: Par 4 • Yards 367 • stroke index 10
Y: Par 4 • Yards 357 • stroke index 10
R: Par 4 • Yards 291 • stroke index 4

This is a very enjoyable par 4 that requires thought and position off the tee. I’d probably recommend avoiding the driver unless you only hit it about 220 yards. Too close to those trees in the middle of the fairway or those on the right and you’ll be struggling.

Hole 13

W: Par 3 • Yards 185 • stroke index 6
Y: Par 3 • Yards 178 • stroke index 6
R: Par 3 • Yards 158 • stroke index 16

Probably our most dangerous Par 3. My advice would be to find the green with your tee shot!! Nothing for right – left or big!!

Hole 14

W: Par 4 • Yards 361 • stroke index 2
Y: Par 4 • Yards 294 • stroke index 8
R: Par 4 • Yards 284 • stroke index 6

A drivable par 4 (at least for the young bucks) but the ‘out of Bounds’ up on the left is tight and the fade is punished severely. If you go down that slope to find your ball, getting up will be a much bigger challenge.

Hole 15

W: Par 3 • Yards 138 • stroke index 18
Y: Par 3 • Yards 130 • stroke index 18
R: Par 4 • Yards 125 • stroke index 18

A very enjoyable par 3. What you see is what you get – but the green IS as small as it looks. There are almost as many 4’s as 3’s on this hole!

Hole 16

W: Par 4 • Yards 376 • stroke index 8
Y: Par 4 • Yards 367 • stroke index 4
R: Par 4 • Yards 372 • stroke index 2

A seemingly innocuous par 4 – and if you get your tee shot away then you’ve got the hole more or less tamed. No need to hug the left with the tee shot – the slope off the right side of the fairway is very useful. The green is huge – probably the biggest on the course.

Hole 17

W: Par 3 • Yards 170 • stroke index 12
Y: Par 3 • Yards 150 • stroke index 12
R: Par 3 • Yards 108 • stroke index 15

A very pleasant par 3 – but the water can intimidate you. It’s a fairly short carry and anything over about 130 yards will result in your ball staying dry! A well bunkered green – long is better than short if you’re between clubs.

Hole 18

W: Par 4 • Yards 439 • stroke index 4
Y: Par 4 • Yards 429 • stroke index 2
R: Par 5 • Yards 422 • stroke index 8

Almost home now for a well earned glass of nectar. Not before you play what many believe is our toughest par 4. It’s a fairly generous tee shot (anything right of the ditch will do) but the difficulty of finding the green in 2 is something that should never be under-estimated. The green is fairly well guarded with bunkers – but they’d never be described as cruel. The biggest problem with this hole is a patio full of spectators when the weathers nice!
